People often ask, "What is design?"

Design is an abstract concept. The definition changes from person to person. Well, according to me, the design is creating an environment around you, lush with peace and harmony. Design is also a medium to depict one's personality and nature.

Many say that design is what makes a house into a home. I ask, "How does one do that?"

To make a house into a home, you need to bring about some form of psychological peace to all the members living in it, how do you do that? It’s simple, give every person a personal depiction of their desires, their idea of peace. The best design is not just making a masterpiece of art, it is to know the people living in it and making every detail according to their choice and convenience. Yes, sometimes clients can be stubborn about then type of design they want, sometimes they even tell you to design what they must have seen somewhere else. Your job is to satisfy that particular need of theirs by keeping in mind what they actually need by tailoring their wants into a perfect fit for them.

Some people are just clueless about what they want, how does one design then?

There are some scenarios where your client might not know what he wants in his/her house, in this case, you need to have a healthy chat with him about what is his idea of life, his goals, his passion. This will give you a rough idea of what your clients need.

Also, I like to think of these situations as a white canvas for myself where I bring a little inspiration from the client's lifestyle and this is a perfect opportunity for me to create a design of my will, this might give you a chance to show your style of design and your creative art. After all the design is a form of art.

All in all design at the end is a depiction of your work your masterpiece while creating a perfect and peaceful environment for the person who is going to live in it. A design is called a successful piece of work only after the person living in it has the satisfaction and peace of what he has spent his money on.
